Teaching and learning strategies
Our objective is to encourage students to learn by actively participating in class through communicative tasks which reflect a wide range of different real life situations. In this way, students learn by doing and incorporate their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, learn by error and correct their pronunciation and register.
Our methodology is based on a communicative approach which stimulates creativity, learning by doing and perseverance, as learning languages is a life long experience. Therefore, our teachers foster constant interaction in class with the aim of making each student the main protagonist of their learning process and not just a passive receiver who only listens and takes notes. With this aim in mind, we design and use interactive activities to develop communicative skills in the target language. Activities are carried out individually, in pairs or in groups, not only to develop grammar and lexical skills, but also all the other strategies needed so that students can communicate and understand effectively when they listen, read, speak or write.
Evaluation system
Our evaluation system takes into account students’ progress from start to finish of the course by means of the following evaluation system:
-
Diagnosis:
Level test and needs analysis. At the start of the course all students must do a level test to determine which language level they should study. Students must also complete a questionnaire on their learning styles and those skills they want of improve.
-
Progress:
Students are monitored on what they are learning and how they learn through continuous evaluation.
-
Achievement:
A final check on students’ learning progress is reflected in the final examination.
Continuous evaluation and a final examination represent the teaching and learning approach used in class and therefore, students must show they have reached the required level in the four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) in order to pass the course.
